Hello, beautiful souls! Welcome to Self-Care Sundays, a sacred time to reset, recharge, and reconnect with your inner self. Here’s a simple 7-step ritual to help you make the most of your Self-Care Sundays.
1. Wake Up Slowly
Instead of jolting awake to an alarm, allow yourself to wake up naturally. Stretch, yawn, and take a few moments to just be. On off days, we shall allow our bodies to rest properly. Yes, it is absolutely important to wake up early and plan our days- but this is for work days to maximize one’s productivity.
Forcing yourself to jump out of your bed and do all the crazy productive rituals on a day off when your body is craving rest is NOT COOL. Remember, you don’t have to feel ‘guilty’ over choosing rest over hustle for your body. Rest, relax and get up when you feel like.
2. Sip a Warm Beverage
Start your day with a warm beverage. It could be a cup of herbal tea, a mug of hot cocoa, or a glass of warm lemon water. Savour each sip and let the warmth spread through your body. Remember, the goal is to focus on what feels good for the day.
If you don’t wish to sip down green tea or the ‘Green Juice’, it’s fine. Drink what feels like home, drink what feels comforting. Hot chocolate? Mocha? Milk Tea? BRING IT ON. Enjoy each sip of the drink, let your tongue relish the taste of the beverage, close your eyes with each sip and relax.
3. Meditate
Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and meditate. The process has to be calm. It doesn’t have to be long. Even a few minutes of silence can help clear your mind and set a peaceful tone for the day. One way is to chant a certain things that helps you calm, eg a mantra or god’s name.
Divine mantra chanting and god’s name chanting create a positive aura and vibrations around you, leaving you feeling more calm and connected to the higher entity aka almighty.
4. Move Your Body
Get your blood flowing with some gentle movement. It could be a yoga session, a walk in the park, or a dance party in your living room. Listen to your body and do what feels good. Although, moving your body even for 10 mins can be an absolute win-win situation, but if you don’t feel like it, that’s okay.
You can replace those 10 mins with breathing exercises- such as alternate nostril breathing, also called anulom-vilom, box breathing, deep breathing and many other breathing exercises that you can find online. This certainly gives you a lot of health benefits without getting up from your cosy space- such as calming down your nerves and mind.
5. Nourish Your Body
Eat a wholesome meal. Prepare a healthy, delicious meal for yourself. Take your time to enjoy the process of cooking and savor every bite of your meal. Either have a fruit bowl with oats, nuts and fruits of your choice or chillas, upma, poha etc. The main point, as I repeat again, is that it shall leave you satisfied and feeling good.
6. A long shower
This I would recommend. Take a nice shower with scrub and face packs. Add salt to your bathing water for that extra layer of self care- such as epsom salts or pink himalayan salt. You can add rose water too. Post shower, use a generous amount of body lotion or body oil, massage your feel with coconut oil, and end with a nice scent or fragnance.
If you plan to stay home, no need to wear jeans and all, just jump into your PJs. Nothing beats a good shower.
7. Reflect and Plan
For the rest of the day, try to practice digital detox. Read that essay or that book, or just chit chat with your family. Take a nap, grab a fruit, talk to a friend, draw or paint, journal, or anything else, but take a break from the digital sanctuary that we already are in 24 into 7. Celebrate your wins, learn from your challenges, and set intentions for the new week.
End your day with gratitude and hit the bed by 10 pm. Self-Care Sundays are all about you. It’s a day to pamper yourself, to do what makes your soul happy, and to prepare for the week ahead with a refreshed mind and a rejuvenated spirit. Here’s to a soulful Sunday!
